The All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) organized a protest at College Street, Kolkata, condemning the recent incident at Jadavpur University. The protesters expressed their strong opposition to the current state of the education system, focusing on issues such as the delay in student union elections. They demanded the immediate announcement of election dates for student unions in colleges and universities across the state. Additionally, AIDSO called for the immediate withdrawal of the newly implemented four-year undergraduate degree course, which they argue is detrimental to students.
The protest also highlighted the need for significant changes in university administration, particularly the appointment of permanent vice-chancellors to ensure better governance. AIDSO further demanded improvements in infrastructure at educational institutions, including the construction of well-equipped laboratories, classrooms, and libraries, to enhance the academic environment. The organization stressed the urgency of these reforms to ensure a better future for students.
